Biologically active (bioactive) compounds derived from plants and marine life have benefits for health and well-being and offer exciting commercial opportunities. Bioactive natural products have a range of potential applications, including pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, and controls for crop pests and diseases. We screen extracts from a range of organisms to determine if they confer health benefits. Routes to market are explored with partners to identify the best approach. The commercial opportunities centre around our research into new bioactive molecules, biochemical pathways and proprietary bioactive products and technologies.

This research is largely carried out by our Plant Extracts Research Unit.
